Drape a Saree Perfectly

The traditional six yards is undoubtedly among the most gorgeous outfits a woman can adorn. Here we tell you how you can wear it with a new twist for a modern look.

Ways to Drape a Saree

Before you wear your saree, there are two essential things that you must pay attention to. A petticoat and a blouse form an important part of the outfit when you wear a saree, what you choose to wear with your saree must complement your saree.

A petticoat is a garment that falls to the floor from the waist. At the waist, it is held fast by a drawstring. You tuck your saree around your waist on your petticoat.

A blouse is a tight fitted top that usually bares the mid riff and falls under the palla/pallu of a saree. Choose a colour or neckline that complements your saree or the look you want to create.

Now, this is the traditional way of wearing it. If you're looking for a way to up the style quotient, wear a pair of leggings instead of a petticoat and a sexy little top in place of a blouse.

Start with tucking the saree all around your waist. Take the other end of the saree; drape it around your waist and over your left shoulder. With the fabric that's left at your waist, start making pleats of approximately 4 inches each. When you have used up the excess fabric and made about six to seven pleats, tuck them neatly into your leggings.

Fold the pleats along the pallu and drape it over your shoulder. Use your index finger to measure the width of the pleats. Make sure the border of the saree falls in the front of the saree. Secure the pleats with a safety pin at your shoulder and also below your waist.

Make this outfit look even more stylish by adding a peplum top with a high-waist belt and accessories to match. Start with tucking the saree all around your waist.
